Abstract

This study tends to explore how the student teachers and lecturer face the challenges in plagiarism and avoid them. Through the challenges faced by student teacher and lecturer, this research aims to identify and create strategies to help both EFL student teacher and lecturer to avoid plagiarism and produce high-quality works. This research uses qualitative research compiled with fifth semester students majoring in the Department of English Education of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta who are enrolled in the Article Writing Course Academic. The results show that there are many challenges faced by student teacher and lecturer in avoiding plagiarism such as lack of motivation, lack of understanding on citation and referencing, grammatical error, difficulty on understanding English, producing good result without effort, and problem of student writing skill. Meanwhile, there are many strategies to avoid plagiarism such as providing motivational support, conducting seminars on writing rules, training in writing skills, building awareness, encouraging student to cultivate ideas, teaching writing techniques, and implementing plagiarism check.
