The publication of an article in VRISPRAAK: International Journal of Law is a significant contribution to the advancement of legal scholarship. This journal reflects the academic integrity and quality of research conducted by authors and their supporting institutions. All parties involved in the publishing process—authors, editors, reviewers, publishers, and readers—are expected to adhere to the following ethical standards.
Publication Decisions:
Editors are responsible for deciding which submitted articles will be published, guided by the journal's editorial policies and legal requirements, including those related to copyright infringement, defamation, and plagiarism.
Fairness:
Editors evaluate manuscripts solely on their academic merit, regardless of the authors' race, gender, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, nationality, or political philosophy.
Confidentiality:
Editors must ensure that all submissions are treated confidentially and disclose information only to those involved in the publication process.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest:
Unpublished material disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used by editors for their own research without the express written consent of the author.
Contribution to Editorial Decisions:
Peer review supports editorial decisions and may also help authors improve their manuscripts through constructive feedback.
Promptness and Objectivity:
Reviewers must promptly notify the editor if they are unable to complete the review or if they lack the expertise to review the manuscript. Reviews should be objective and free from personal criticism.
Confidentiality:
All manuscripts received for review are confidential documents and must not be shared or discussed with others without editor approval.
Acknowledgment of Sources:
Reviewers should identify relevant published works not cited by the authors and notify the editor of any substantial similarity or overlap with other published material.
Originality and Plagiarism:
Authors must ensure that their work is original. Any work or words of others must be appropriately cited or quoted.
Reporting Standards:
Research reports must be accurate, detailed, and replicable. Fraudulent or intentionally inaccurate statements are unethical and unacceptable.
Multiple or Concurrent Publication:
Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently is unethical and unacceptable.
Authorship:
Authorship should include only individuals who have made substantial contributions to the research. All co-authors must approve the final version of the manuscript and agree to its submission.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest:
Authors must disclose any financial or other substantive conflicts of interest that might influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript and acknowledge all sources of funding.
Errors in Published Works:
If an author discovers a significant error in their published work, they must promptly inform the editor and cooperate to retract or correct the paper.
The publisher ensures the integrity of the academic record by supporting ethical standards throughout all publication stages. Commercial considerations, such as advertisements or sponsorships, will not influence editorial decisions.
